This patchwork flag quilt is a super quick project and you can easily put one together before the 4th of July, if you want to! The quilt can be made up using any cotton fabric you have on hand and any pattern you want. Any reds, whites, and blues would be spectacular!
To make the project even more fun, you could add some patriotic embellishments like stars and stripes.
This is a wonderful project for using up scraps in a creative way. There are also many red, white, and blue fabrics that are on sale during this time of year as well.
In my opinion, the more scraps there are in the quilt, the better. There are many ways to make your own blocks. You can use yardage, fat quarters, precuts or leftover scraps.
This quilt measures 36 inches x 48 inches, and it is made of 4-inch x 4-incg finished (4 1/2 inch x 4 1/2 inch unfinished) squares.
By adding a border or two to the quilt, you can always make it bigger and make it look even more impressive.
Alternatively, you can make your patchwork squares larger and use the same layout to make your patchwork quilt. To change the size of the quilt, you will need a calculator and graph paper, but the basic dimensions are 9 squares x 12 squares – in order to change the size, just multiply those numbers by the size of your finished squares. The squares need to be cut 1/2 inch larger than the size of the final square to leave room for the seam allowance, so make sure you cut the squares at least that size.
